Seniors Keeping Cool in Duncan During the Heat Wave

Seniors Keeping Cool in Duncan During the Heat Wave

August 4th, 2021

Vancouver Island has been suffering the same heat waves as elsewhere in Canada. But Duncan, British Columbia, where we have our Hamlets at Duncan, is a lovely spot where it is not hard to keep cool during the hot weather. Here are a few suggestions for cool activities for seniors.

Museums

The Hand of Man Museum in Maple Bay is a 15,000 square foot natural history and cultural museum. Museums are always a good choice during the hot weather because art exhibits always require careful climate control. The Hand of Man is open seven days a week.

Art Mann Park

Art Mann Park is on the edge of Quamichan Lake. There are washrooms, and it’s a great place to do some bird watching and get your feet wet. For the more adventurous, you can canoe or pack a picnic lunch.

Peters Lane Park

At the end of Arbutus Avenue in Maple Bay, you will find Peters Lane Park. This park borders on and offers access to the beach and the Georgia Strait. There are lots of trees, nature trails, and plenty of shade for cool outing.

Glenora Trails Head Park

Not far away is the Glenora Trails Head Park, along the Cowichan River. There is good parking, washrooms, picnic tables and plenty of shade. It’s at 4280 Robertson Road in Glenora, and it’s open from dawn to dusk daily, all year round.

Staying Home

If you don’t want to go out, and you are a resident at The Hamlets at Duncan, we always have plenty of activities to distract you from the heat wave. In July, for example, there are a variety of fitness activities including badminton, word games, visits from students, and ice cream socials.

The heat waves may be unpleasant for a few days, but it is easy to keep your cool in Duncan, BC. There are parks, cultural activities, and bodies of water in every direction.

The Hamlets at Duncan is a brand-new, assisted-living and complex-care senior community in Duncan, BC, on Vancouver Island. Guided by the tenets of Christian faith, and with a stellar staff and multiple amenities, The Hamlets at Duncan, is the premier senior-living choice for the area.
